Spokane, WA – McConkey Auction Group (MAG) announced today that it has retained Joe LeMonds as General Manager of DAA Las Vegas. Here we are in mid-August already. If time really does fly when you’re having fun, this spring and summer have been an absolute blast!! Everyone is wondering, “When will the market change? And what will used car demand look like this fall?” There are lots of opinions out there and none of them are full of self-confidence.

Nothing is normal—the current market is no exception. We’ve seen hot streaks in the past; I recall a few 80% sales in the spring of 2009. But never, ever in my lifetime have I seen a sustained market like this one. It does seem like buyers are really struggling to pay what it takes to own inventory.

Obviously, everything is different these days. The 2020 Rock & Roll Sale was no exception. It was a completely virtual event in every respect. I look forward to getting us all back together next year for a “real” old fashion Rock & Roll Sale. This year’s sale was awesome in its own way. 2400 total consigned and 2000 sold for an 83% overall conversion rate. While the volumes were obviously way off, (a sign of the times) the sales percentage was again off the charts.

The auction market has continued to perform at an unprecedented pace. Never in my 40 years in the business have I seen anything like it. Both Seattle and Spokane’s sales have been hovering in the 80% range for the past few weeks. Trucks are leading the way, but everything is selling, and it is all selling virtually.

In the future, we will all look back to the spring of 2020 and say to ourselves, “Wow, that was the weirdest time in our lives.” Specifically, as it relates to our auction business, we were shut down for two months with nothing but despair and dread for our customers and ourselves. We apprehensively wondered what the future might hold.

These are truly unprecedented times. One day, we will all look back on the spring of 2020 and say, “Wow, that was weird.” We will also remember how we got creative, worked together, and made it through.

DAA Northwest and DAA Seattle (MAG) Dealers: The market has heated-up and retail demand has arrived on most dealers’ doorsteps over the past week. This week is big at MAG. We have inventory for you to buy – lots of it.

The normalcy of January and February 2020 seems like years ago now. No one could have imagined the storm that quietly began to brew in February would turn itself into the largest global economic and social disaster since the 1940s. We can only hope and pray that this pandemic can be controlled and dealt with through common sense and balanced decision making.

We know the COVID-19 pandemic has created unprecedented hardship for all of you. Trying to anticipate and react to the evolving unknown is exhausting. We are all doing our part to stay safe while fighting to keep our businesses afloat. These are times truly like none other.

DAA Northwest and DAA Seattle (MAG) Dealer Community: I’ve got an important update to share about the interim strategy for our Spokane and Seattle locations. We are all well entrenched in the current reality of COVID-19; it has impacted both our businesses and our personal lives. Even though I know this reality is temporary, it is easy to become confused and discouraged due to the constant change and the daily battles we face.
The Cronkites helped DAA Northwest celebrate 25 years of Rock & Roll Sales Wednesday, July 22nd 2020. The band has opened for every Rock & Roll Sale headliner since 1999, and took “center stage” on the auction arena’s roof for a virtual, YouTube concert.
