Market Insights: Growth, Stability, and a Grand Opening to Remember

March 25, 2025 | Market Insights from Bob McConkey

Amongst all the recent global turmoil and economic uncertainty, the car market has shown amazing resilience and stability over the past 90 days. From $1,000 trades to $60,000 trucks, anything priced appropriately is selling well in the lanes. Overall, MAG sales percentages have been hovering in the 60% range, which is a very balanced, healthy spot for the market.

DAA Portland, although still a work in progress, held its grand opening sale this past week with 916 units crossing the block and 598 sold for a robust 65% sale. In all my years of auctions and auction start-ups, never have I seen anything like DAA Portland’s initial start-up phase. The dealers of Portland and the greater southeast region of the Pacific Northwest have greeted us with open arms, showing immense patience as we get our feet planted on the ground, and supporting us with their inventory and overall commitment. Words can’t express our gratitude for the premature level of confidence the Oregon dealer body has shown us in these first three months. It is unprecedented and we are so grateful for it.

MAG overall is as healthy as it has ever been. The next generation of dedicated young people, coupled with those who have been around for decades, are teaming up, working extremely hard, and doing an amazing job.

We are selling well over 2,000 units per week throughout the Pacific Northwest! We know that every day we must earn your business, and this group of people is up for the challenge. We are in a mindset of continuous evolution and improvement, and we know we have a long way to go.

For me, this is the most gratifying phase of my 45-year auction career.

My upcoming new title—Chairman of the Board—is perfect! They have to listen to me, they have to pay me, and I don’t do anything! I am grateful for this team!

Thank you for your continued support as we do our best to earn your business every day. We know you have lots of options and we are thankful to be able to serve you.

See you in the lanes!
