Federal Odometer Disclosure Requirement Update

Effective January 1, 2021, McConkey Auction Group (MAG) has implemented the Federal Government’s new Odometer Disclosure Requirements. In summary:

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has extended the odometer disclosure period from 10 to 20 years.
  • Washington State was not able to meet the January 1, 2021 deadline. However, since it is a Federal law, McConkey Auction Group is required to comply.
  • What this means:
    • Odometer disclosures are required for every sale or transfer for the first 20 years of a vehicle’s life (as opposed to the 10 years that were required prior to January 1, 2021).
    • This change will only apply to model year 2011 and newer vehicles. When a vehicle with a model year of 2011 or newer is sold or transferred, the actual odometer mileage must be included on the Odometer Disclosure Statement for 20 years before that vehicle becomes Exempt.
    • This new requirement does not affect currently Exempt vehicles. Model year 2010 and older vehicles will continue to be exempt from Federal Odometer Disclosure Requirements.

Please refer to the information below for model year exemption dates.
